Black Bear Wilderness Adventures

Kluane National Park

World Heritage Site

Travel 160 km from Whitehorse west to Haines Junction, the gateway to St. Elias Mountain Range. On our way we will stop at numerous historic places along the famous Alaska Highway.

Here Kluane National Park awaits us with superlatives such as the highest mountain peak in Canada, world’s largest non-polar ice field and many more natural attractions, which promoted the Park to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visit the Da Kų Cultural Centre and the Parks Canada interpretive centre to see the topographical model of the park and learn from a variety of interpretative displays.

We then drive south along the park border to Kathleen Lake where you will share a picnic lunch on the shore. Here the rare, land-locked Kokanee Salmon thrive. There is time to walk along the shore of the lake before heading to the base of an ancient Rock Glacier. An easy walk, less than 2 km round trip, 30 minutes to an hour with an climb of 90 metres (300 feet) will reward us with an amazing panoramic view of Dezadeash Lake.

Before we head back to Whitehorse we won’t miss the remarkable bakery in Haines Junction with its finest home made goodies.
